Cystitis / Recurrent urinary infections

Cystitis is an inflammation of the lining of the bladder. This can be caused by infection (bacterial cystitis) or from the body's immune system.

Cystitis can be categorized into the following:
  • Acute cystitis: this is a single urinary tract infection (UTI) that is quickly treated with antibiotics and then settles.
  • Recurrent bacterial cystitis
  • Recurrent abacterial cystitis
  • Interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome)

  • The leaflet below addresses the management of recurrent cystitis and interstitial cystitis
