Rectocoele is the term used to describe prolapse or the back wall of the vagina.

The tissue between the vagina and rectum weakens and the rectum pushes into the vagina to cause a bulge.

In addition to feeling a bulge in the vagina some may experience bowel symptoms including difficulty in emptying the bowel, urgency to pass a stool, incontinence to flatus (wind) or faeces.

Treatments vary from pelvic floor exercises to vaginal pessaries or surgery.
