Dr Andrew Thrower: Consultant Radiologist

Dr Thrower has been a consultant radiologist since October 2007, initially employed in Bradford Teaching Hospitals for 2 years. He subsequently moved south and since January 2010 has been working at both the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and the Hampshire Clinic. His medical and radiological training was in Leeds and West Yorkshire, including a year as a gastrointestinal radiology fellow in Bradford.

Dr Thrower is a general radiologist but specialise in gastro-intestinal and abdominal radiology, both diagnostic and interventional. He has a particular interest in "virtual colonoscopy", a relatively non-invasive method of examining the colon, and teach this technique on a specialist course. He introduced MR proctography to Basingstoke Hospital and has become an integral part of our multidisciplinary team.

His other interests include:
MRI of the liver, pancreas, biliary tree, small bowel, rectum, prostate and perineum.
Abdominal CT.
Fluoroscopic contrast (barium) examinations of the gastro-intestinal tract.
Therapeutic and diagnostic interventional procedures such as biopsies, drainage procedures, biliary procedures and gastrostomy insertion
